About the event

July 15-19

9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Ages 8-12

Join us for a full week of hands-on learning as we have fun with robotics and learn about weather and climate. Campers will enjoy lunch and free-time from noon-1:00 pm (bring a lunch and drink).

The morning robotics challenge includes the opportunity to:

- Build, program and operate a LEGO Mindstorms robot with different sensors

- Work through a series of exercises to experience solving elemental robotics tasks.

At our afternoon weather & climate program, students will learn about the different variables responsible for the weather and climate of our planet and the factors that lead to changes both at short term and long term.

We will talk about the following:

- Weather Tools and Forecasting

Students will make weather tools using simple materials and will record weather data.

- Thermal Energy, Heat Transfer, and Density

Students will conduct various demonstrations while exploring the properties of heat transfer and density.

- Air Masses and Weather Fronts

Students will create a model using a tank of water and food coloring to demonstrate the movement of air masses.

- Oceanic Circulation

Students will conduct demonstrations to explore how wind and gravity cause surface currents. They will also learn about the role of salinity and temperature in deep ocean currents.

- Investigating Climate Change

Students will create a model to demonstrate the greenhouse effect and explore how melting ice affects sea levels.
