Classes for Children & Teens

When your child takes a class at the Rockville Science Center, you know they will experience hands-on learning in a small group. The Rockville Science Center offers classes for children and teens ages 7 & up. We even offer classes that the whole family can take part in (see our calendar for an overview of what's happening)! We have afterschool and homeschool programs that last for six weeks or you can sign up for single-topic class. Check out the current list of classes below and sign up today!

    This beginner friendly workshop will teach how to make a heart coaster. The heart coasters can be assembled to appear as a flower when not in use. Ages 11-adult

    This workshop will teach how to make a mini pouch out of granny squares. Participants will learn skills commonly used in assembling bags/clothing, such as crocheting pieces together, creating edging, and creating a drawstring/handle. Ages 11-adult

    What is Electricity and How Can It Hurt You?

    Learn what “electricity” really is, why it can hurt (or kill), and the methods we use to protect ourselves. A general audience presentation: some knowledge of electricity is helpful but not necessary.

Discounts & Financial Aid

FINANCIAL AID: Scholarships are available to those who qualify for benefits such as FARMS, SNAP, and Medicaid or who can otherwise show need (documentation must be provided). If you qualify, register at the scholarship rate for your desired camp/class and email documentation within 7 days to achacon@rockvillesciencecenter.org. All information will remain confidential.

DISCOUNTS: A 10% discount is available for siblings, multiple class registrations, and to those who hold a membership. You can claim the discount online at the time of registration.

Class Policies

Photo Release

By registering for a class or other event, I consent to Rockville Science Center's use of myself and/or my child’s image and likeness as shown in any photographs, videotapes, motion picture film, or electronic images and any audio recordings made of the participant’s voice in whatever way Rockville Science Center desires, including television, print, website, and social media platforms. Furthermore, I consent that such photographs, films, recordings, electronic images shall be the sole property of  Rockville Science Center.

RSC's Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel a registration, please email us at info@rockvillesciencecenter.org as soon as possible.

 

Please note that a $15 administrative fee will be deducted from all refunds for multi-session classes. This administrative fee will not apply to refunds initiated by RSC due to low enrollment.

Cancellations received:

At least 7 days prior to the first class: 100% of the ticket price (minus fees) will be refunded. 
1-6 days prior to the first class: 50% of the ticket price (minus fees) will be refunded.

Less than 24 hours before the first class: No refund
Low Enrollment: In the event that the Rockville Science Center cancels a class due to low enrollment, 100% of the ticket price including fees will be promptly refunded.
