“Chernobyl - What Went Wrong and Why” with Richard Colarco
Shortly after midnight of April 25-26, 1986, reactor #4 of the Chernobyl Atomic Energy Station (near Pripyat, Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union) suffered a catastrophic failure and exploded. The presentation explores why the explosion happened, the immediate aftermath of the explosion, long-term consequences of the explosion, and lessons learned.
Our speaker: Richard Colarco, is currently the treasurer and a docent at the National Capital Radio and Television Museum. He has a BS in physics, and advanced degrees in operations research and education. Mr. Colarco directed airborne reconnaissance operations in Korea, and was deputy commander of the Space Surveillance Network.
