Soils are diverse, complex, natural wonders that support biodiversity and ecosystem services, but are often overlooked. In this talk, we will explore the processes that lead to the formation of unique soil types. Dr. Pressler will describe how scientists study the ways that soils form, function, and change over time. She will also show you where you can explore the soils around you, what to look for when you find them, and how to capture soil memories. Speaker: Dr. Yamina Pressler is a soil scientist and educator who studies soil ecology in coastal California bioregions and advocates for soil conservation and care. She is an Assistant Professor of Soil Science and Restoration Ecology at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where she teaches a variety of soil science and ecology courses and leads the Coastal Soil Horizons & Ecology Lab.
