MoCo Makers: Introduction to Field Programmable Gate Arrays
FPGAs - Field Programmable Gate Arrays - are integrated circuits that allow one to design high-speed digital logic circuits. We will introduce these chips, and how they can be the 'magical bag' for electrical engineers - in that they can be programmed to become almost anything.
Time & Location

Rockville Makerspace, 33 Maryland Ave #F, Rockville, MD 20850, USA
About the event
FPGAs - Field Programmable Gate Arrays - are integrated circuits that allow one to design high-speed digital logic circuits. They can be repeatedly programmed after manufacturing.
FPGAs consist of an array of programmable logic blocks that can be configured “in the field” to perform various digital functions. You can represent state machines, or traditional processor logic using your own custom designs.
We will introduce these chips, and how they can be the 'magical bag' for electrical engineers - in that they can be programmed to become almost anything.
Live examples of working with an FGPA will be given, as well as foundation introduction to the basic concepts. We will provide enough introduction for a future talk on Hardware Description Languages such as Verilog.
Join us for this fun introduction. All backgrounds and skill-levels are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
