Jr. Scientists: Bouncy Balls - Polymers Lab

Come learn about what makes a ball bounce and why slime stretches but a bouncy ball springs back. Ages 4-6

Time & Location

Dec 05, 2025, 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Rockville Science Center, 36C Maryland Ave, Rockville, MD 20850, USA

About the event

It's a mystery! Or is it? What makes a ball bounce? Why does slime stretch but a bouncy ball spring back? In this exciting, hands-on class, young scientists (ages 4-6) will explore the squishy, stretchy world of polymers — the building blocks that make up so many of our favorite materials! Children will mix, mold, and roll their own bouncing polymer balls while learning how ingredients like glue and powder link together like beads on a string to make stretchy solids.

Through play-based discovery, kids will explore what makes things soft or firm, bouncy or still, and get to take home their very own homemade ball.
