About the event

In our DNA program, we'll explore the role DNA plays in shaping the characteristics of living organisms. Topics will include:

  • What is a cell?  Learn about the main parts of a cell and their functions. Look at different cells under the microscope and create your own 3D model of a cell.

  • DNA structure: Students will explore DNA, the molecule that carries the instructions for life, and learn how it is stored inside the nucleus of the cell. Using real laboratory techniques, campers will stain the nucleus of onion cells with methylene blue and observe where DNA is located under the microscope. We'll also build a double helix DNA with LEGOs and explore Genotype and Phenotype using a simulated DNA sequencer.

  • Decoding Your DNA - Top Secret Mission: Put on your detective hat and see if you can crack the code that builds and runs every living organism. This simulation will require campers…
