“Assessing the Risks in the Aftermath of the Collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge” with Dr. Michael Shields
Following the 2024 collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge after a container ship strike, Johns Hopkins Civil and Systems Engineering professor Dr. Michael Shields led a National Science Foundation–funded study to assess the risk of such collisions across the U.S.
Our speaker: Dr. Michael Shields is a professor in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering, holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, is a fellow in the Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute, and a member of the Data Science and AI Institute.
