About the event

Infinite series are an important tool in mathematics and show up everywhere. Although we have known about infinite series since ancient times, real progress was made in the 17th and 18th century where infinite series were intricately linked with the development of calculus. We will also focus on a special class of infinite series called geometric series which have applications in many fields including biology, physics, economics and computer science.

Our presenter: Dr. Farhan Hameed has a Ph.D. in economics from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics from Macalester College. Although Farhan has worked as an economist throughout his career, math has been a passion. He is always looking for creative ways to introduce his children to math concepts.
