Jr. Scientists: Secret Message

Mix chemistry with art as we put on our secret agent hats to create the coolest secret messages. Ages 4-6

Time & Location

Nov 07, 2026, 1:15 PM – 2:00 PM

Rockville Science Center, 130 Rollins Ave, Suite F-2, Rockville, MD 20852, USA

About the event

Ages 4-6 (parents may stay and join the fun at no additional charge)

Location: 130 Rollins Ave, Suite F-2, Rockville, MD 20852 (free parking available)

Young scientists, ages 4-6, will explore the science of acids and bases by becoming secret agents and artists at the same time. Using turmeric, a common kitchen spice with a bright golden-yellow color, they will discover how this natural chemical indicator dramatically changes color when it comes into contact with acidic or basic substances. By painting with a baking soda solution and vinegar on turmeric-infused paper, participants will reveal hidden messages and create vibrant, color-shifting artwork, all powered by the chemistry happening right before their eyes.

Parents may either drop off their child or stay and join the fun too (no charge for adults to participate)!
