About the event
Join us on a tour of the The Stonestreet Museum of 19th Century Medicine. This is a one-room doctor’s office built in 1852 for Dr. Edward Elisha Stonestreet of Rockville, who graduated from the University of Maryland’s medical school. Dr. Stonestreet was a practicing country doctor in the Rockville area until his death in 1903. During the fifty-one years of his practice, medical knowledge and technology underwent many radical changes. The Stonestreet Museum contains a small office vignette, and exhibits that highlight our extensive 19th and early 20th century medical collections including books, instruments and tools, pharmaceutical items, and more. Join Master Docent and reenactor Clarence Hickey for a tour and visit to the Museum, its 19th century medicinal garden, and the burgeoning science of that era. There are hands-on activities for young people.
Parking: Parking is available at 42 West Middle Lane, in front of and to the left of the Jane C. Sween Library. The Stonestreet Museum is a very short walk behind the library.
