Explorations! Field Trip

Our Explorations! science and technology outings are back in action this month with a tour of the Rockville Travilah Stone Quarry on Thursday, June 22, 9:50 - 11:30 AM. This is a family-friendly trip (under 18 must attend with an adult). We will meet at the Quarry (13900 Piney Meetinghouse Road, Rockville) for a bus tour of the property (some walking is involved). The tour will begin promptly at 10:00 am (please arrive 10 minutes prior to the tour). Registration is required. The quarry is owned and operated by the Holcim Group (Holcim Limited), a Swiss-French multinational company that manufactures building material. The property began operation in 1955 as the Hunting Hill Quarry. The quarry produces much of the aggregate used in construction for the National Capital Region.
