The History of Spaceflight over the Past Several Thousand Years

Come and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Lunar Landing. Professional Engineer Bruce Cranford, Jr.will discuss the History of Spaceflight over the past several thousand years.Topics include definitions and explanation of spaceflight.The focus will be on the most significant events, both U.S. and foreign, past, present and future.
Several Thousand years? All will be revealed in the presentation!
Mr. Cranford is a docent at the National Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center. He is a licensed Professional Engineer, having earned his BSE in Aerospace Engineering from Catholic University in Washington DC and his MSE in biomedical Engineering from George Washington University.
Mr. Cranford has served as President of the of Potomac Chapter of the Maryland Society of Professional Engineers, is a Speaker at the Montgomery College lifelong Learning Institute, a Space and Energetic Materials consultant, and a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He has has published over 70 articles and four books on space, energy, and energetic materials. Bruce also developed medical equipment for field services (known as MASH units). One of his notable projects was the first automated mobile patient chemical – nuclear – biological decontaminating unit.
Rockville Science Café meets every third Tuesday of the month. It features a scientist engaging and leading a discussion that encourages conversation, debate, and interaction. The presentation is free and open to the public. You may purchase a drink, dinner from the $20 “all included” prix fixe menu (including non-alcoholic drink and tip), or dinner from the full menu. There is free parking behind the restaurant.
