People love to watch robots run around and complete complicated tasks. They
entertain and intrigue kids of all ages. The Rockville Robotics
League is using the popularity of robotics to develop interests in
engineering and science in teenagers. We work in small teams to build,
program, and operate robots during a series of work sessions. The teens
experience an engineering development
process and then participate in team competitions. The activities
will help them grow their teamwork and leadership skills.
During the summer of 2010 we
initiated our league with a workshop and tournament for middle
school students. In the fall of 2010 we registered three
teams in the FIRST LEGO League competition. We are continuing our efforts throughout 2011
with classes, camps, and competitions. Stay tuned to this web
site for future activities.
The Rockville Science Center (RSC) is
a non-profit (501(c)(3) organization dedicated to inspiring a passion
for lifelong exploration of science by cultivating a sense of
inquiry, discovery and understanding of the scientific foundations
of everyday life. The Rockville Robotics League is one of a collection of
programs that it has initiated to develop science literacy and meet
the interests of all our citizens.
